SQL Server – Installation Error – “Reporting Services Catalog Database File Existence”

Background

Running into a showstopper trying to re-install SQL Server -v 2014.

 

Error

Here is the error.

  2. Reporting Services Catalog Temporary Database File Existence

 

TroubleShooting

Reviewed the targeted folder as I knew I had uninstalled the previous SQL Server Install.

Found the Reporting database files.

And, yes we have the reporting database data and log files.

    • E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSR12.MSSQLServer

Explanation

  1. We chose to install and configure Reporting Services

 

Findings

The depth of the problem is that we asked for Reporting Services to be installed and configured.

The configuration created the Reporting Services database.

And, it seems that rightfully the uninstaller skipped those databases during the uninstall.

 

Resolution

Windows Explorer

Here we created a new folder and moved the Reporting Services data and log files to the created folder.

Once the Reporting database data and log files were moved out of the way, Features Configuration Rules passed.
