Acronis – Disk Director – Error Message – “Acronis Director Suite was not able to increase the free space on selected partition.  The current size of the selected partition is the maximum possible.”

Again, ran out of disk space.  Unfortunately, running MS Windows 2003 and thus not able to use the native OS built-in “Disk Manager” to re-size the partitions .  Basically, unable to “rob Peter to pay Paul”.

So what to do, bring out an old, but obviously reliable friend.  That is Acronis Disk Director.  It is already installed on this box and so no need to look for media nor install it.

Tried using it, the steps are minimal, simple, and should not be error prone.  Will like to make Drive C: a bit bigger.  Don’t have much room on the other drives either – 0.5 GB on Drive D and 0.5 GB on Drive E:

But, let us see … how far can I can get:

  1. Choose which drive you want to increase –> C:
  2. Choose which drive you want to shrink –> E:
  3. Choose how much storage we want to move over –> 500 MB

But, each time I tried to navigate those choices, I always ended up at the same place with the same error message.

Acronis Director Suite was not able to increase the free space on selected partition.  The current size of the selected partition is the maximum possible.”

Here are the steps:

Select Partition to Increase:

Increase Free Space Wizard

Error Message

It seems the problem is due to the fact that the Logical Drive (E:) that I am trying to shrink only has 0.5 GB.

Was able to remove a lot of files from my Drive D:.  Actually, was able to have 2.5 GB available.

Once that occurred was able to select Drive D: has the Drive to be shrunk.
