Microsoft – Windows – Internals

Microsoft – Windows – Internals

One of Microsoft’s best moves at least per Windows is buying Winternals and bringing in Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell.

Mark and Bryce’ company, Winternals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winternals) wrote a lot of tools that allows unprecedented access to Windows Internals.

I stumbled upon a blog over the weekend and the Blogger mentioned what it sometimes take to get Microsoft to fix things…

He mentioned something of the effect that you sometimes have to let them know why fixing that bug is so important to your company …. And, that you have to let them in on how much and how bad it hurts — something to the effect of having blood on the table.

Well, this morning Tuesday Nov 13, 2012 is one of those days. Microsoft’s Chief of Windows, Steve Sinofsky, is leaving the company. Who would have imagined this happening a couple of weeks after leading MS Windows 8 Development and shipping that product.

For early followers of Microsoft, keep in mind that Steve Sinofsky, took over from probably the relatively more gentlemanly, Jim Allchin.

James “Jim” Edward Allchin  is a former executive at Microsoft, where he was responsible for many of the platform components from Microsoft including Microsoft Windows, Windows Server, server products such as SQL Server, and developer technologies. He may be most known for building Microsoft’s server business…

Allchin retired in early 2007 – on the day that Microsoft officially released the Windows Vista operating system to consumers.

He is also known for his leading role in the architecture and development of the directory services technology Banyan VINES.

Allchin is now a professional musician.

Here is MS Blogger, Dare’s Obasanjo, take on Steve Sinofsky.

In many Quarters and plains, there is a bit of blood on a few tables this morning and so don’t just be an observer or a groupie, say a little prayer for everyone and I hope you are working so very hard at something you ‘re so happy to be doing and for whom you ‘re happy do be doing it.

In closing, I like Andre Agassi’s quotes.  One of them says

http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/a/andre_agassi.html

First of all, let me say, 1:15 in the morning, for 20,000 people to still be here, I wasn’t the winner, tennis was. That’s awesome. I don’t know if I’ve ever felt so good here before.

And, so it goes, and it always has:

There are no big moments, just little ones that when sewn together can mean things for a while.

People never win.  Institutions, Stock Holders, Customers, Science, Incubation, Hard work, Contribution, and Time Wins.

And, that is OK; as that is what you build on.
